During a seven-day study trip to the partner university Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 15 students were able to gain an outstanding and comprehensive insight into the culture as well as economical and political structures of Malaysia.

As in the title:

WinterTech Malaysia

Navigating Finance and Engineering in ASEAN Integration
Academic Winter programme as part of the DAAD programme HAW.International 2023-2024 at the partner university Universiti Kuala Lumpur 10.12.2023 - 16.12.2023

emphasized Malaysia's general economic and political development, particularly in relation to its role in the ASEAN organisation. An intensive professional exchange at the partner university Universiti Kuala Lumpur and at the German-Malaysian Institute as well as numerous practical exercises enabled students to engage directly with international students, intensive encounters with Malaysian culture and the associated expansion of intercultural skills.

The students visited institutions such as the German-Malaysian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK) in Kuala Lumpur, globally operating German companies such as Evonik and Koerber Solutions as well as the Sime Darby Plantation, one of the largest palm oil plantations in the world. These visits offered the scholarship holders detailed insights into the world of work in a different cultural context and also provided a variety of opportunities for exchange on internships and career prospects abroad. This created incentives for many students to spend a longer period abroad during or after their studies.

Our special thanks go to our cooperation partners at UniKL, the German-Malaysia Institute and Ms Aisyah Azmin, alumni of both GMI and Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences, for their warm support in organising the short-term mobility on site. The intensive exchange with Ms Azmin also showed the worldwide network that Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences has already been able to establish and the international impact of HSM graduates.

The project HSM.InternationalER, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the DAAD HAW.International funding line, supports students with little mobility experience by introducing practical short-term mobilities. The event was organised by Department 1, project coordinator Jana Blochberger and accompanied by Prof. Dr Uwe Hettler, Vice President for Studies and International Relations and Ms Blochberger.

In 2023, short-term mobilities to the partner universities TEK-UP University in Ariana/Tunis, Tunisia and Jan Evangelista University Usti nad Labem have already taken place within the project. Further short-term mobilities are planned for the project duration in 2024.

If you have any further questions, please contact the project manager Prof Dr Uwe Hettler (U.Hettler@hs-sm.de) or the project management team, Jana Blochberger (J.Blochberger@hs-sm.de).
