Studirende mit Rangoli

As the sun set on November 25, 2023, the prestigious H0001 Hall, also known as Audimax, at Hochschule Schmalkalden, was a sight to behold, proudly hosting the grand Schmaldiwali 2023. The event, held under the framework of Hochschule Internationaler, was a testament to the vibrant tapestry of Indian culture, leaving attendees awestruck, filled with joy and memories of having experienced something completely culturally different.

The event was meticulously put together under the visionary leadership of Mrs. Rita Bagchi and Mrs. Catharina Wassink, educators at the institution, whose dedication to cultural exchange shone through brightly. Their efforts, along with the tireless work of Kiran Achari, Arti Rana, and Ravinder Singh Dogra, ensured that the night was a resounding success.

The evening's festivities commenced with the mayor of Schmalkalden, Thomas Kaminski, and Mrs. Rita Bagchi lighting the Diwali lamp, signifying the unity and shared spirit of the community. The presence of Vice President of the University, Prof. Dr. Uwe Hettler, and other special guests from Schmalkalden-Meiningen, underscored the event's significance.

We are also immensely grateful to Claudia and Modesto Pesavento, representatives of Eproplast, whose sponsorship was integral to the event's success. Their support added a modern dimension to the celebration, with the introduction of innovative technology like the 360 camera, capturing the festivities in a spectacular fashion.

The cultural exposition began with a dynamic Lavani dance from Maharashtra, followed by an invigorating performance of Kathak storytelling through dance. Tamil Nadu's Dhapang Kuthu brought regional charm, and the evening culminated with the exuberant Bhangra dance, all contributing to the vibrant atmosphere. The food, catered by the Bombay Restaurant, Meiningen, left the attendees delighted with the Indian gastronomy.

The interlude featured a video presentation that took attendees across India's diverse landscapes and the leading technological innovations, while soul-stirring melodies played the perfect backdrop, enhancing the immersive experience. A dedicated gallery section with a beautifully adorned map of India and evocative posters enriched the event, allowing guests to learn and create lasting memories through photographs.

Schmaldiwali 2023 was more than a celebration; it was an odyssey into the heart of India's cultural richness. Through captivating performances, patriotic songs, delectable cuisine, and the collaborative efforts of organizers and sponsors, the event left an indelible mark on all. It was an immersive experience that transcended boundaries, bringing the community together in a joyous celebration of harmony and diversity.

In an ever-shrinking world, this event beautifully drove home just how much we all value and enjoy similar things while bringing a valued insight into a completely different culture and some of what it encompasses.
