Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences is a university of applied sciences in Thuringia. It is idyllically located on the edge of the Thuringian Forest. The green campus is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in Thuringia and Germany. All facilities, such as lecture halls, laboratories, mensa, library, residential facilities and sports facilities, are within easy walking distance. Students benefit from the diverse opportunities offered by studying at the university: international orientation, excellent teaching, a wide range of subjects, modern equipment, affordable housing and an attractive university town.

Under the umbrella of its five faculties – Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Economics and Business Law – Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences offers a wide range of study options. The practical relevance and excellent facilities at the university are the most frequently cited reasons for choosing to study in Schmalkalden. Training formats such as project-based learning and practical phases are just as much a part of the university experience as small learning groups and close contact with teaching staff.

All degree programmes offer numerous opportunities to study abroad. Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences has a broad network of over 150 partner universities worldwide, stretching as far as Australia. Many students take advantage of this opportunity to study abroad for a semester or complete an internship at a foreign company, thereby gaining valuable experience. Particularly noteworthy is the opportunity to obtain a double degree at a foreign partner university: Master's students at the Faculty of Economics can obtain an MBA as a second degree in the USA, Canada or Spain free of charge.

In its mission statement, under the heading ‘Responsible use of resources’, Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences is committed to sustainable action. All members of Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences see it as their duty to use natural resources sparingly and sustainably. Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences is a cosmopolitan place. Diversity of opinion and international exchange form the basis of our teaching and research activities. Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences also supports the ‘Cosmopolitan Thuringia’ initiative, which promotes the rule of law, democracy and diversity in Thuringia. It is also committed to the nationwide campaign against xenophobia organised by the German Rectors' Conference.
