Research and development is not only aimed at gaining abstract knowledge and increasing the amount of knowledge available, it also takes on the task of solving urgent challenges and current problems of social relevance. Applied science in particular aims to improve and facilitate people's lives, everyday life and work - be it with the help of technological innovations, the optimization of production processes or research into socio-economic phenomena and interrelationships. The tasks of our present and foreseeable future are enormous: digitalization and automation, as well as decarbonization, are intensive transformation processes that our societies have to master. Application-oriented research means identifying and analyzing problems and ultimately finding ways to solve them. In short, it is about understanding, explaining and changing the world.
On these pages, Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences aims to present itself in all its diversity as an innovative center of research with its specific understanding of research and its various research focuses and reference projects. In addition, it will focus on the next generation of scientists, both in the context of doctorates and start-ups.
