End of the Stay

At some point, all good things must come to an end. After several months of living and studying in Schmalkalden and meeting lots of inspiring people, it’s now time for you to go back home. On this page we will provide you with everything you need to consider prior to your departure.

Transcript of Records

After the exams (which hopefully you will all pass) it takes about four weeks for your grades to be entered into the system. In your StudIP account you can always check the current status. As soon as all your grades are available, you can obtain your certificate from Ms Franziska Weiß at the Students' Office. If you have already left Schmalkalden by this time, simply write an e-mail to Ms Weiß and ask her to send your certificate to your home address or by e-mail.

Learning Agreement and Confirmation of Stay

If you’re an ERASMUS student, we will send your confirmation of stay to the exchange coordinator of your home university. This can take up to four weeks from the end the examination period. If you still need your updated Learning Agreement with changes made during the stay to be signed, please consult your respective faculty coordinator.

Bank Account and Health Insurance

As a next step, you might wish to close your German bank account if you have one. To do so, please arrange a timely meeting with your respective branch. Please note that you must not have any financial transactions (neither receiving nor debiting) three days prior to actually closing the account.

Equally, you will need to cancel your health insurance contract (unless you study as part of a double-degree programme – then you will need to keep it). Again, please arrange a timely meeting with the respective person in charge. You will need to provide a de-registration certificate (“Exmatrikulationsbescheinigung”), which, again, you can get at the Students’ Office.

Dormitory

Once all of this is done, all that is left for you to do is to take your belongings, clean your room and leave the dormitory. This is, however, only possible on week days. You will need to have your room checked, give back the key and receive your deposit.

Goodbye

Then you’re good to go – we’d like to stay in touch with you though: If you haven’t done so yet, please like our Facebook page and Instagram. We wish you a safe trip back home and would love to see you again in Schmalkalden one day.
