Since October, there has been a station on campus for rental bikes from the FUKS project, where FUKS stands for "For Our Short Routes". There are a total of four bike stations in Schmalkalden: At the Milchhalle, at the train station, at the Altmarkt and at the university.
If you want to borrow a bike, you can register at the Milchhalle during opening hours. There you will get a numerical code for the lock. The bike must be returned to one of the four FUKS stations within 24 hours.
The currently more than 20 bicycles have all been donated by citizens of the city and made roadworthy again by the BUKS association. The latter also came up with the idea for this free loan bike project. People should be invited to do short distances in Schmalkalden by bike. But they also want to inspire students to cycle more regularly to the city center.
A project like this can only work with trust. That's why all those involved, including the BUKS association, the city of Schmalkalden and the university, hope that the bikes will be handled with care.
