First-semester students and newly enrolled students receive their thoska after completing enrolment at the Student Service Zone (SSZ).
Functions of the thoska
- Student ID card
- Library user card (register here)
- Electronic wallet for payments in canteens and cafeterias
- Print, scan and copying card
- Access card for selected buildings and rooms (requires prior authorization)
- For use of washing machines and dryers in the student residences of the Studierendenwerk Thüringen
Cost of the thoska
Students receive the thoska (first card) for a one-time fee of €20 (this fee only applies starting from the 2026/2027 winter semester).
If the thoska is lost or damaged through negligence, a replacement card will be issued for a fee of €30 .
Extending the validity of the thoska
The validity (validation) of your student ID card can be extended at the self-service terminals at the beginning of each new semester.
Validation terminals:
- Canteen foyer
- Cellarius Library
- Ground floor of the lecture hall building (House H)
Loss of the thoska
Any loss or defect of the thoska must be reported to the Student Administration in House A. The credit on a lost card should be treated like cash in a physical wallet: if you lose the card, the money is unfortunately gone.
Credit on a defective chip card can be transferred to a new card, provided the chip can still be read.
Topping up credit
You can load credit onto the electronic wallet of your thoska at the top-up terminals operated by the Studierendenwerk Thüringen. Payments can be made using EC/debit cards, credit cards (Mastercard, Maestro, Visa, V-Pay), or cash.
Please note that topping up is only possible with a currently valid thoska.
Locations of the top-up terminals:
- Canteen (EC/debit cards and credit cards – Mastercard, Maestro, Visa, V-Pay)
- Cellarius Library (EC/debit card only)
