Central Quality Management

The Central Quality Management is a central unit at Hochschule Schmalkalden. It designs and manages a variety of measures and processes across the university relating to the quality management system. The ZQM team supports and advises the quality officers of the university on all matters concerning the university’s quality management system.

The system-accredited university was granted the right by the Accreditation Council to award the Accreditation Council's seal of approval for the degree programs it has assessed. This is based on regular evaluations of the degree programs and the areas of performance relevant to teaching and studying.

QM-System – Quality Dimensions and Key Areas of Action

The Quality Management (QM) system of Hochschule Schmalkalden aims to ensure a high level of structural, process, and outcome quality in its educational offerings. It is guided by clearly defined quality objectives derived from jointly developed mission statements, strategic orientations, and further institutional guidelines.

Targeted measures are systematically analyzed within monitoring processes in order to initiate necessary adjustments at an early stage. Closed control loops based on individual Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) cycles, combined with regular evaluations, provide diverse impulses for optimization and continuous improvement. Tailored QM units and committees, together with adequate resource allocation, ensure structural quality.

Optimized, university-wide documented processes emphasize process quality. They facilitate the development of appropriate course content, teaching methods, and study conditions and provide a fertile foundation for the acquisition of competencies and the specific professional qualification of students. Intensive review processes for each individual study program within the framework of internal accreditation, incorporating external academic expertise, ensure compliance with normative requirements and standards and, in particular, the achievement of a high level of academic quality.

Through the systematic analysis of outcome quality—such as study success, employability, and other indicators of success—the University completes the quality dimension cycle and ensures an overall coherent and integrated system.
