Interview with a student on a taster course from Switzerland
Philip, a 20-year-old from Switzerland, has travelled all the way to Schmalkalden to get a feel for our university as part of our taster course. Find out more in the interview below:
How did you come across our taster course, particularly in Switzerland?
I was actually interested in studying in Switzerland. The course is called ‘Multimedia Production’. However, I also wanted to look into options abroad. Whilst searching on Google (‘Multimedia Online Marketing course’), I came across the ‘Multimedia Marketing’ course at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences. I thought it might suit me well and wanted to find out more. As I can take a few days off at short notice from my internship, I thought the best thing would be to pop over to Schmalkalden for the taster course.
What was your impression of the taster course?
My first impression was that it’s a very friendly university where you can chat with the lecturers and ask questions, and there isn’t the same sense of distance you’d find at a traditional university. I really like that, because I went to a fairly small school back in Switzerland. That way, you have a good rapport and close interaction with the teachers, and the students all know each other more or less. I’ve had a similar feeling here in Schmalkalden too. My impression was definitely that of a small, friendly university – very positive in my view.
Which subject or degree programme interests you most and why?
I’m interested in the Multimedia Marketing degree programme because I’m interested in all kinds of media and I’m drawn to the link with marketing. I’m currently doing an internship at a small online marketing firm. I really enjoy the work there. Alongside that, I attend training courses run by Google and other providers, and in my spare time I design websites, shoot videos or create adverts on Google and social media. I discovered my passion for this field at some point. During my internship, we often shoot promotional videos or take photos for our clients for their presence across various media. I really enjoy all of this. That’s why I’d now like to undertake a specific course of study in this field.
Now that you’ve done the taster course, could you imagine studying here at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences?
Schmalkalden is certainly an option. I need to think it over carefully in the near future and look at a few other possibilities in detail.
