Germany Scholarship ceremoniously awarded

Yesterday, 28 students at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences received a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship for the new academic year in a festive ceremony. In addition to the scholarship holders, many donors were also present to personally present the certificate to "their" students.

The Deutschlandstipendium has been awarded to outstanding students since 2011. Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences has been involved from the very beginning and awards between 20 and 35 scholarships every year. Many donors have been supporting the university for many years, such as the Carl Zeiss Foundation, which sponsors several scholarships. This year, the university was able to attract 17 sponsors.

All scholarship holders are distinguished by their outstanding academic achievements and their voluntary work in associations and institutions. "The Deutschlandstipendium is an effective instrument to give young people a little tailwind on their career path and to tie them to the region. I therefore hope that many sponsors will participate in the program and that many students at our Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences can continue to be supported," says District Administrator Peggy Greiser.

Around 500 graduates leave the university every year. "I would like to encourage you to think about Thuringia on your career path," said University President Prof. Gundolf Baier in his welcome address to the scholarship holders. After all, the shortage of skilled workers will become even greater in the future and the number of people in employment will continue to fall. The university is also making efforts to better integrate the many international students and make Thuringia their professional home. "We want to become even better and be a cosmopolitan region," says Baier.

Background to the Deutschlandstipendium:

With the Deutschlandstipendium, the Federal Government has initiated a new scholarship culture and created a new scholarship culture at many universities in Germany. Almost 30,500 students received a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship last year, and over 9,000 sponsors supported the Deutschlandstipendium with around 32 million euros - more than ever before.

With the Deutschlandstipendium, students receive 300 euros a month for two semesters - half from the federal government and the other half from private donors or businesses - and can therefore concentrate much more on their studies. Scholarship recipients often benefit from non-material and networking support measures such as workshops, seminars and mentoring programs.
