Managing Director Sascha Zmiskol and his team gave students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering a tour of Rennsteig Werkzeuge - a medium-sized tool manufacturing company in southern Thuringia.
The students learned what is important in the development and production of tools. For example, there are hundreds of connections and contacts in a car wiring harness: A crimping tool, a specially designed tool for making electrical connections, has to withstand 50,000 or more operations. High demands are also placed on precise production: In addition to CNC manufacturing processes for machining and grinding the tools, complicated contours are created by injection molding metals.
The Viernau-based company is responsible for everything from the development of product and process technology to production, opening up interesting opportunities for students at our university in particular to write their thesis, work as a student trainee or as a future employer.
