How can technology be designed to truly ease the burden on caregivers and enable older adults to live more independently? In search of answers, members of the NEMo-Ass research project traveled to meet with other researchers working on the future of care to exchange ideas and gather suggestions for potential future collaborations.
The NEMo-Ass project, funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation, is developing a robot to support the mobility of older adults. By closely incorporating user needs and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, the robot aims to enhance the autonomy and safety of older adults and reduce the workload on caregivers.
At the TPG Innovation Summit 2026 held at the Leopoldina in Halle (Saale)—which this year took place under the theme “The Future of Care Is Participatory”—25 projects demonstrated how technological solutions are transforming everyday care. The event provided researchers with ample opportunity for professional exchange.
During a visit to the Maker and Education LAB in Halle, participants were able to try out various robotic solutions, leading to in-depth discussions about application scenarios in care. The focus was on sharing experiences regarding strategies for user participation—such as how new technologies can be introduced to older adults through workshops and realistic simulations. The members of the NEMo-Ass project would like to extend their sincere thanks to the TPG team led by Dr. Anja Wolf for their time and the extensive insights they provided.
About the Innovation Summit 2026
The TPG Innovation Summit is the largest summit in Central Germany dedicated to the future of nursing and healthcare. For the fifth time, experts from the fields of nursing, research, and development are coming together with service users, family caregivers, and people in need of care. In 2026, the summit took place at the Leopoldina—National Academy of Sciences in Halle under the theme “The Future of Nursing Is Participatory.”
