New Year's Reception 2027

On Wednesday, 20 January 2027, at 6:00 p.m., Hochschule Schmalkalden, the City of Schmalkalden and the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the University will welcome invited guests from the worlds of politics, business, academia and culture to the traditional New Year's Reception on campus.

In their New Year's addresses, the President of Hochschule Schmalkalden, Prof. Dr. Gundolf Baier, and the Mayor of Schmalkalden, Thomas Kaminski, will look back on the events of 2026 and offer an outlook on the new challenges and opportunities ahead in 2027.

This year's keynote address will be delivered by Colette Boos-John, Thuringia's Minister for Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Areas.

As every year, the New Year's Reception will also provide a festive setting for the presentation of honours and awards. These will include the 2026 sponsorship awards presented by the VDWF, the City of Schmalkalden and the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the University, each endowed with €2,500. The 2026 DAAD Prize will also be officially presented.
