Student accommodation in Schmalkalden

There are several different options for student accommodation in Schmalkalden. The most interesting ones for students are listed and presented here briefly. The links lead to the respective offers.

The Studierendenwerk Thüringen (Thuringia Student Services) operates all student residences in Schmalkalden. The Blechhammer 9b residence is located directly on the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences campus, directly behind the cafeteria. The residence has sufficient parking spaces and is less than a minute's walk from the Schmalkalden-Fachhochschule train station, which is close to the campus. The other residential complex is also only about an eight-minute walk from the campus in the Martin-Luther-Ring development area. All residences have furnished single rooms in shared flats for two to four people (mostly flats for three people) as well as single apartments, all of which are equipped with a fitted kitchen and shower/WC. The monthly rent (including utilities) is between 167 and 228 euros. Rental contracts are usually concluded on a semester basis or for the entire standard period of study. If you wish to conclude a shorter rental contract (not until the end of a semester: 31 March or 30 September), you must expect higher rental prices. In this case, you should be absolutely sure how long you will need your room. Please note that rental agreements can only be concluded for whole months. Both residential complexes have been renovated and have washing machines, dryers and bicycle storage rooms. All ancillary costs (electricity, heating, water, etc.) are included in the rent. Only the internet connection is provided separately by Telesystems Thorwarth GmbH.

Applications for accommodation in one of the two residential complexes are made online via the website of the Studierendenwerk Thüringen (Thuringia Student Services Association). The application period begins on 1 April for the winter semester and 1 October for the summer semester. Applications can be submitted even before confirmation of admission to the university. Accommodation is allocated in the order in which applications are received.
