International affairs

Today's career paths often have an international dimension. For many executives in Germany and globally, communicating in English has become second nature. Some large German corporations have even adopted English as their official corporate language. The Faculty of Business and Economics therefore offers students the opportunity to pursue a degree programme with a distinctly international focus. We provide a wide range of options to prepare for professional roles in an international context. Gaining insights into other cultures through a globally oriented course of study is not only exciting but also lays the foundation for long-term personal success.

As part of their bachelor’s studies, all students have the opportunity to attend lectures in English. We also offer lectures in Spanish to help students strengthen their proficiency in another global language. Linguistic flexibility is particularly nurtured in the predominantly English-taught Bachelor of Arts in International Business and Economics.

All students enrolled in the Faculty’s bachelor’s programmes – whether in Business Administration, Economics, Business and Economics, International Business and Economics or Business Psychology – have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad at one of our more than 80 partner universities worldwide. Credits earned at a partner institution are fully recognised and count towards their degree at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences, ensuring students incur no delay in completing their degree. In the International Business and Economics programme, students also have the option to pursue a double degree with a renowned university in Mexico.

Our master’s programmes in International Business and Economics and Finance are taught entirely in English. In cooperation with selected partner universities abroad, students can enhance their international experience of a semester abroad by pursuing a coveted double degree, such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a Master of Science (M.Sc.), in addition to the Master of Arts (M.A.) in International Business and Economics awarded by Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences.

The International Summer School Schmalkalden (ISSS) also embodies an international spirit. Held annually with guest professors from the USA, Mexico, Brazil and Australia, it attracts students from our global network of partner institutions. In addition to lectures delivered entirely in English, participants enjoy a diverse cultural programme in Berlin and Thuringia. The famous Midnight-Sun Lecture adds a distinctive touch to the ISSS experience.

Semester Abroad

Bachelor students of the Faculty of Business and Economics learn out about the many opportunities for a semester abroad by attending the “Study Abroad Seminar" ("Auslandskolloquium"). For master students, the “International Seminar” provides the relevant information. Dates and further details are announced on the notice boards. Participation in these sessions is a prerequisite for undertaking a semester abroad.
