Through the Germany Scholarship, Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences aims to support talented students whose academic and professional track record to date suggests they will achieve outstanding results, whilst also recognising and facilitating their social and community engagement alongside their studies. In the selection process, particular consideration is given not only to good grades and academic performance, but also to educational background and family and social circumstances.
The scholarships are funded by private sponsors such as companies, foundations or individuals, matched by federal government funds, and awarded at a rate of 300 euros per month, initially for one year. The call for applications takes place once a year for the winter semester and is published on the university’s website.
Dear Sir or Madam,
Benjamin Franklin once said, “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” In these times of technological and social upheaval, this is more relevant today than ever. And it applies just as much to each individual as it does to society and the economy as a whole.
Education secures opportunities for advancement and prosperity for young people and helps businesses remain competitive. The Germany Scholarship is therefore an excellent tool for investing in the future of our country and the region, and for offering young people the best possible conditions for a successful start.
We are very proud that Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences has been able to award the Germany Scholarship to high-achieving and socially committed students since 2011. This is made possible through the collaboration of our private sponsors with the federal government. Many sponsors are partners who value network expansion and the promotion of talent, and who wish to get to know and support the high-achieving young professionals of tomorrow.
Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences wishes to remain an ambassador for this promising scholarship culture. Together with you, we wish to recognise outstanding academic achievement and social commitment at an early stage and, with the help of this nationwide Excellence Initiative, invest sustainably in the future.
Get involved too with a Germany Scholarship at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences, because “An investment in knowledge still yields the best returns.”

"Through the Germany Scholarship, we support particularly talented and committed students, because for us, nurturing young talent is an investment in the future. In particular, the financial support enables students to concentrate fully on their studies at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences and lay the foundations for a successful start to their careers later on. As sponsors, this gives us the opportunity to accompany a young person on a part of their life’s journey and to be enriched ourselves in the process, not least by sustainably strengthening our thriving business location. The Germany Scholarship is therefore an effective tool for giving young people a little boost on their career path and, in doing so, helping to retain them in the region. I therefore hope that many sponsors will take part in the programme and that many students at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences can continue to receive support."
Peggy Greiser, Landrätin des Landkreises Schmalkalden-Meiningen
