Accessing the University's Wi-Fi Network

Network identifiers (SSIDs)

To connect to the wireless network (WLAN) at HS Schmalkalden, you will need to choose a Service Set Identifier (SSID), which is essentially the network's name.

Once you've activated the Wi-Fi adapter on your mobile device (be it a laptop, smartphone, or another gadget), you should see the following two networks listed in the available wireless networks:

  • HSM
  • eduroam

In order to access the public internet, you will typically require an FHS-ID. This FHS-ID serves as a unique identifier for members of the university.

For more details on this, please refer to Servicekey and FHS-ID

Accessing eduroam - Exclusive to FHS-ID holders (University Members)

This access opens up several possibilities:

  • Unrestricted access to the public internet with only a few limited ports (for example, Port 25, smtp) being blocked.

For configuration, you will need:

  • Authentication: Your FHS-ID and its associated password
  • WLAN Adapter Settings:
    • SSID (Network Identifier): eduroam
    • Security Type: WPA2 Enterprise
    • Encryption: AES
    • Authentication Type: EAP-PWD
    • Login: fhsid(at)hs-schmalkalden.de
