The Thuringian State Parliament decided on April 3, 2003, to introduce long-term study fees through an amendment to the Higher Education Act. The Thuringian universities are required to review the fee obligation in accordance with the law and, if necessary, demand payment of the fee upon enrollment or re-registration. This information sheet is intended to inform about the new legal provisions of the state and the procedure at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences.
In accordance with § 4 of the Thuringian Higher Education Fees and Charges Act, the higher education institutions in Thuringia charge students long-term tuition fees in the amount of 500 EUR for each semester in which the standard period of study (RSZ) of a Bachelor's or consecutive Master's degree programme is exceeded by more than four semesters. The standard period of study is determined by the respective study and examination regulations of the chosen degree programme. In the case of consecutive Master's degree programmes, the total standard period of study of the first completed degree programme as well as the consecutive Master's degree programme is taken as a basis.
